Inspired by the ephemeral notion of transformation through fire, Yukari takes queues from Shou Sugi Ban, the Japanese architectural finishing technique of sealing wood through fire, and elements of wabi-sabi. A series of bowls and platters have been created from reclaimed Australian Eucalyptus, with metal cast into the split wood creating unity within the form and a renewed life. The metal contrasts the naturally occurring cavities highlighting the human impact on the environment around us.
Finished in a hand made beeswax and coconut polish.
N.B. Through considerable testing, only one concrete driveway was severely harmed in the making of these objects.
